Using Student Writing as a Tool

During the various stages of the Writing Process, as a student creates a piece of draft writing, the student (together with the tutor) may identify parts of the writing that could be improved. Once something has been identified, where to next?

Remember –

  • Don’t work on everything at once.
  • Keep in mind the goals identified by the student in their Learning Plan and link the activity to the goal(s).

This resource 'Using Student Writing as a Tool' provides some ideas about where you can go to next with a student in developing their writing. There are four sections:

  • Writing
  • Grammar
  • Spelling
  • Reading
