Initially the tutor discusses and explains the steps involved in the writing process. Then the tutor may model the writing process so that student(s) gain better understanding of the steps involved.

The tutor encourages and assists the student(s) to begin writing by following the steps in the writing process.

At the planning stage the tutor can encourage student(s) to use the whiteboard or larger pieces of paper to brainstorm, create mindmaps, etc.

The student then practises the process with tutor support until he / she develops independent writing skills.

Note:

  • Writing is not a linear process; the writer may need to move back and forth while following through these steps.
  • Student writing could be published in the newsletter or used as reading material with student consent.
