Structural Analysis

This resource may be used by those enrolled in the CALT - Certificate of Adult Literacy Tutoring course, and others who may be interested in developing their understanding of structural analysis. The resource is to be used following discussion and reflection of your own place within the current socio economic structure, where you fit, why and how.

 

One of the core activities in the Literacy Aotearoa Trainer Manual, Mahuru (September) 2007,  requires learners:
To consider the implications of the socio-economic structures that bear upon contemporary literacy in Aotearoa New Zealand.

A number of articles, research papers and reports are provided. After selecting and reading the article/paper/report consider the following questions:

  • Who is the target audience?
  • How has the author gathered the information / data?
  • Whose perspective is being portrayed?
  • Who controls the resources?
  • What are the economic / political / social ‘norms?, and…
  • How are they shaped and by whom, and excluding whom?
