Adult Learners' Week - He Tangata Mātauranga Report

8 Mahuru (September) is the United Nations designated date for International Literacy Day, and for many years in Aotearoa it has been ensconced within Adult Learners' Week – He Tangata Mātauranga.  International Literacy Day was celebrated on 8 Mahuru (September) 2011.

The calendar of regular events altered throughout Aotearoa in 2011 so the nation could enjoy the Rugby World Cup.  School term dates were extended to fit in semi-final and final matches, and this also impacted on Adult Learners' Week - He Tangata Mātauranga.  This year ‘the week’ (which normally occurs shifted, to occur from 31 Whiringa ā nuku (October) to 6 Whiringa ā rangi (November) and enabled some of our Poupou to celebrate twice.

The ALW-HTM Report is a compilation of reports submitted by Ngā Poupou (members of Literacy Aotearoa) detailing the events and celebrations held on International Literacy Day and during the ‘week’.
